A trip to the lake! But no swimming?
Last Sunday some friends and I made a quick trip up to Lake Chapala. Lake Chapala is the biggest lake in Mexico and is about an hour from Guadalajara. Now before you start conjuring up images in your head of jet skis, tubing, swimming in the lake all day, etc, let me just say that this lake is nothing like that. Mostly its everyone on the little boardwalk just staring at the lake and then a few little boats that will take you out on the water. There was no question really of whether I was going to take my swimsuit because no one even considers whether they are going to swim in the lake. The water didn't look extremely nasty to me, but I guess I am going to take everyone's word for it that it is. We still had a fun time though and at least got to get out on the water on a boat.
On our way to the lake we stopped to eat some burritos. From the left is Jorge's mom, Sara, me, two guys that are renting rooms in Ceci's parents' house, Ceci, and Jorge.

Me before trying my first bite of lengua. Yep, lengua means tongue. It was surprisingly good and I even asked for a second bite.

Notice the Mexican flag along with an American flag. There is a huge number of American retirees who live in the town of Chapala.
Jorge and Ceci on the boat out to a small island in the middle of the lake.
Sara and I. She is one of my good friends here and is also my friend Manuel's girlfriend.
We were so sad that Angeles couldn't go that we took this picture with a spot in it just for her. Angeles is Sara's sister and a great friend of mine. The more I get to know them, the more I love those girls. They are an encouragement to me and we always have such a good time when we are together.
Some of Chapala from the water. You can see the top of the cathedral above the trees.

Looks like you had a good lake trip. I can't believe that the water is so bad that NO ONE wants to get in it. I guess when you get home in a year that is something we are going to have to do. Glad you are having fun before school starts back. Talk to you later. LOVE YOU!
I feel like that first paragraph is directed at me. And yes, I still think you should've swam.
