Guadalajara!!

I finally made it to Guadalajara a little more than a week ago. My roommate, Kim, arrived on Tuesday. This week has mostly just been spent getting to know the city a little, getting to know Kim more, and looking for a place for us to live, before we both begin our jobs. We found a place the other day, now we just have to wait to get furniture before we can move in! Other exciting news is that the Haynes (the missionaries from my church that serve here) are returning this week from stateside assignment! David will be driving back with Chris, one of my friends from back home that is going to spend a week here in Mexico, and they should be arriving late today. Then Becky and the kids will be flying in tomorrow. Here are some pictures from this past week: Etel (Kim and I are staying in an apartment behind her house right now) and I trying to catch Ralphie, our little mouse friend that keeps showing up in our place. It was quite the event with Javier (Etel's son) coming out to help us, Etel standing up on the living room chair, some screaming, etc. We have yet to catch him.
The other day I wanted to try making agua de jamaica, a very popular drink here. You can make it from a package, but I wanted to experiment and make the real thing. All you have to do is boil water, add dried hibiscus flowers and sugar, strain it, and then let it cool. I didn't do anything by actually measuring, but it turned out tasting good! The other day Kim and I wanted to make a cake so we decided it would be more fun if we were actually celebrating something. So we celebrated her birthday which was last week, my birthday which was the end of November (but we decided I needed a cake since technically I didn't have one on my birthday), and my 3 months of being here in Mexico. Plus, we decided we needed to use the "2" and "3" candles that my friend Briana sent me in a package that arrived after my bday. I told you I would use them somehow Briana!

Correction!! You did have a birthday cake, but you weren't at home to enjoy it. It sure was good.
